It has been somewhat of a shock moving from High School to Yale, so much has changed. But one of the hardest things to deal with is time management. Having four classes should be easier than having six or seven, right? But let's see if that is really the case...
Follow up:
First off, writing this little article is my diversion from correcting my essay and doing German homework. Once I'm done writing this, I will probably need a couple mario cart races to get off the computer for a few minutes. After that I will probably need to go do some theater stuff to get out of my dorm for a bit. As you can see, it isn't so much the workload that makes college (Yale) difficult. It's just that there's so freaking much to do. If you looked at my account of last weekend, there was no time for homework in there.
Now we all know that colleges are supposed to teach in a semester what high school teaches in a year. Given this, shouldn't my 4 college courses really equal 8 high school classes? Yes and no. I spend less time physically in class than I did in high school, however in high school I never did homework. Maybe for an hour or two per week. However, now I have to read a novel a week, plus three philosophical essays a week, plus CS projects (Crap, I forgot I had to do that), plus German every night. So in the end college workload is about the same as high school workload.
Perhaps if there weren't so many cool things and cool people to distract me, I might be able to accomplish something once in a while. For instance, I spent about 5 hours going to a concert last night...probably a bad choice, but how many chances do you get to go see awesome bands. I realized that I'd probably have to do a lot of homework and stay up too late a couple weeknights this week.
However, this is what makes college awesome. I have minimal time constraints, and I have way more control over my schedule. For instance, when things get busy...I just don't take YDN photos. When I get tired during the day, I take a nap. Simple as that. Naturally I still have to go to classes and practices and all that, but people are more flexible overall.
Best of all, there are still numerous resources for homework help. I just got a German tutor who is going to help me study before Friday tests, and naturally SparkNotes gave me the time to write this little message today. My writing experience in AP U.S. helped me seamlessly transition to the freshman seminar style of reading and writing. So there are similarities between high school and college classes, however college basically requires a totally different type of work ethic.
Back to the grind!
