France, Tampons, and Popcorn

10/27/08 | by Charlie [mail] | Categories: Improv Comedy

What an interesting title! What do these three things have in common? Oh they were all in our first on-campus improv show! Yes that's right, our first show was a huge success; we packed a full-house. I played in three games, Commercials, Oracle and Pantheon in addition to introing Circle of Death. Unfortunately there was no video of the show, but I'll give you a quick rundown!

Follow up:

So probably the best part of the show was the beginning. We introduced everyone, and when it got to me I said Charlie Croom and heard tons of people shouting my name from the back. Turns out a few of the people from my entryway came to see it. Anyways that was a great way to start my show.

Commercials is a game which starts like a normal scene. Ours started with the suggested first line of "You are so classy and refined". Then after we play for a while we get another suggestion from the audience of what this could be a commercial for. Tampons in our case. That was my first scene in front of peers and it couldn't have gone better.

The Oracle is one of our signature games. Basically three people answer questions except one word at a time. So the responses are generally very hilarious, always a fun one.

Pantheon involes having audience members write down phrases on paper as they enter. So in this game we start a normal scene, I think ours started in the non-geographic location of a beech. Then an audience member shouts something every one in awhile. When they do this we read one of the phrases and have to justify it in the scene. Great time. We ended up burying the beech bathroom in popcorn, and then burrowing down because I looked better in the dark, but then my boyfriend apparently had cornered me down there. We got quite lucky with a perfectly fitting ending phrase of "Here's Looking at you Kid"

Anyways, that was my part of our show. I think it went well for everyone, so that's awesome. I will be missing our next off-campus show as it is the day a friend is coming to visit. However, the next on campus show is "The End of Prohibition Show"...needless to say it will be December 5th. We had practice today and tried out a few new games so those should be appearing in future shows.

That's the weekend, this week starts work for The Full Monty so should be fairly busy and oh my gosh I need a Halloween costume! :)
