| « The question, answered! | Comedy » |
After a rough night tossing and turning in excited apprehension of the callbacks ahead, I finally awoke to the day. In order to better prepare to produce comedy, I went to City Hall and took pictures of the mayor talking about the budget. That aside, I attended two pre-audition dinners for "Ex!t Players" and "The Viola Question", after which it was off to the main events.
Follow up:
My 7 O'clock audition was Ex!t, which I felt went well. My first topic of Dental Hygine turned out to be a bad choice, but once I got funerals it was easy sailing. Everything there went pretty well, and I think that of the group I was with I had a decent chance of getting in. However, there was another audition group which could make it interesting. I feel like I had the best social connection with Ex!t so hopefully that works in my favor.
At 9, I headed over to Viola auditions (still the comedy group). These sucked, badly. I was somewhat just tired and apparently not funny. There were only 7 of us called back for this group. But again Murphy's law prevailed (Literally, the Murphy's law joke was perfectly placed). In all fairness, the other people in this audition were much funnier than Ex!t. Granted I missed the sex, cocaine, and other sex scene, but oh well. One girl in particular was a clear winner, she was just amazing.
The final part of the Viola audition was by far the hardest. Imagine filibustering, but with improv. You simply start a scene with the last line of the person before you, and go from there. Play as many people as you want, as many places, and as many times. This was probably the best part of my audition, and involved a hobo, talking cat, a cute little girl, and a humane shelter. Plus some other minor characters. Took about 10 minutes for me, I enjoyed it.
Anyways, leaving Ex!t players they gave a little speech about how much fun improv is to do. How great the people are, how it's something to look forward to. Exactly what I was thinking at the time. So I will be pretty distraught if i totally failed.
Tonight is a waiting game of sorts, both improv and a capella do what is called "Tap Night". Basically right now all the groups are using some obscure bargaining and chatting about who they want. Later tonight groups will raid student dorms and "tap" (draft) people they want. The joiner they says Yes, No, or Maybe (waiting for another group). Anyways, catch is this event occurs whenever the groups come to a consensus. So it will frequently be about 3-7 in the morning. Frankly, I wouldn't mind.
So for now, I'll just grab my YDN assignment for tomorrow and head off to bed. If nothing else, at least I have a photo in the paper today. Off to play the waiting game...
