I wear my sunglasses at night...

11/04/08 | by Charlie [mail] | Categories: The Life, College

Yeah I do, because it's always night here, there's no other time to wear them. It's like freaking Alaska or something here now. After daylight savings time moved backwards, it is dark by 5:00 here. I went to dinner at 5:30 in pitch black. It's just odd.

Additionally, the world is braced for one of the longest and most important days in recent history. Today, Obama will win the Presidency of the United States of America. Ahead by exactly 7% points, this election should be a fairly open and shut deal. So now we look ahead to what the past year of non-stop campaigning will evolve into during his four years in office. Hope it's good.

Anyways, those were just minor rants...the real purpose of my writing is to tell you about Halloween at Yale! More after the jump...

Follow up:

Well I elected to go out with the other VQ freshman in a Great Gatsby theme. To prove I am the weirdest of all the nerds, I went as the symbolic Green Light from Gatsby. It was a rather simple costume, I dressed entirely in green and wore some green glow sticks and a head flashlight with green theater gel covering it.

Our night got started at about 9 when we did some party hopping before we made the walk up to the Mansion where the Dean and Provost's reception is held every year. There we met more VQ people and got our picture with Provost Salovey who guessed our theme in record breaking time. I found the cookies and doughnuts to be quite delicious there.

Following that we made a quick pitstop to pick up The Great Gatsby before we headed over to the Inferno. Back in the day (4 years ago), this was the Halloween party. Things getting broken, people passing out, fire hazards, what more could one ask for. However, this year they brought it back with the addition of Police...who dressed as Police. Stupid costumes aside, there were almost more Police than people. It was ridiculous.

Finally, we went to Woolsey Hall for the best part of any Yale Halloween. The YSO Midnight show. The Yale Symphony Orchestra performs a mixed-media concert every Halloween. A silent movie is recorded and then they play a series of songs on top of it. This year's movie was a cross of Mario and the Godfather. Music was a healthy mix of Mario, Indiana Jones, the Godfather, O Fortuna, Hoedown (I played that!), and much more. It was an awesome show.

So that was my Halloween, I'd write more, but I think it's pretty self-explanatory, plus you kind of have to just be there. Anyways, don't forget to vote! Busy week!
