Work hard, Play hard

09/07/08 | by Charlie [mail] | Categories: The Life

There seems to be a general adherence to the phrase "Work Hard, Play Hard" at Yale. People around here generally seem to have a plan that involves either reading an insane amount in the next hour, or having as much fun as a given night will allow. While this trend may fade away as the year goes on, it is quite an interesting phenomenon to write about.

Follow up:

The classes here involve a ludicrous amount of work. For instance, DS - Directed Studies. I went shopping with someone in this class for books and they dropped about 400$ for the first two weeks readings. I passed a friend in the hallway today carrying The Complete Works of Plato and the Illiad by Homer, in the same arm. She informed me that both were due by the end of the week. Wow. I suppose it is worth three credits, but that's a lot.

On the flip side, the Freshman Olympics were today (A Silliman thing). We battled it out by entryway for some coveted household object. I am proud to report that I have found myself to be well endowed with musical chair talent and won that event. It was a lot of fun. The best part was actually our attire. We wore red, for blood spilling. And worked with the theme of safe sex. We've had a lot...a lot of talks about sex and how important it is to not rape someone without consent. ;D So our FroCo used body paint with the phrase ,"We don't need consent to kick your ass" and wore a condom studded headband. Good times.

So I am just finishing up some papers and other random stuff for tomorrows classes. My first paper is not turning out so well, but still got a day on that. Tomorrow night is also my Improv Auditions so little nervous about that. Even if that doesn't work out it's been a fun run doing all that. So back to the grind I suppose!
